9:00-10:00…………Program:
Earthshine Nature Programs: An Introduction
Steve O’Neil, Naturalist and Executive Director
Steve will speak to us about his work with Earthshine Nature Programs (ENP), a small nature and wildlife conservation, science, and renewable energy/Electric Vehicles education nonprofit organization based in Pisgah Forest, Through ENP Steve works to educate others on the need to be better stewards of nature by transitioning away from toxic, carbon-based, finite, fossil fuels that are harming our environment, our health, and children’s futures – to clean, domestically produced, renewable energy sources and electric vehicles, because the evidence supports it, and it is the smart thing to do. Steve has developed many unique programs over the years with his most recent being the Earthshine Nature Community Assistance Program (ENCAP). This program is working to build resiliency in our community by helping those in need get through hard times when the electricity and communications grids are offline. This program had been in development before Helene, but after that disaster Steve went all in on this new initiative and is now working to make it happen as fast as possible.
Steve is from Hendersonville, North Carolina. He spent his early years chasing snakes, lizards, and salamanders all over the mountains and beaches of North Carolina. During his college years, Steve studied wildlife and fisheries management, recreation management, and zooarchaeology, and when not in the lab or library he could be found in the classroom and fields and forests leading others in pursuit of the knowledge offered by one-on-one encounters with wild things and wild places.
