Our demonstration gardens are located at the Pisgah Ranger Station, Highway 276. Most plants are native North Carolina and grown to support wildlife, including Monarch butterflies, pollinating insects and birds. We grow three types of milkweed for the Monarchs. Our pollinators flock to Gaura or Wandflower, Blazing Star, Joe Pye Weed and Golden Rod. Birds appreciate Beautyberry, Pokeweed and Witch Hazel. Uncommon plants on display include a Kentucky yellowwood tree, Wild Ginger, Jack-in-the Pulpits, a Strawberry bush, Carolina Lupine, Prairie Rosinweed and Coral Honeysuckle. The seven garden areas include a bird bed, ferns and woodland plantings. Each offer different sun and moisture levels, which allow us to grow a variety of plants. Many will be in full bloom in July for our tour. Come and get some ideas for your garden.
