Container Gardening for All Seasons, a talk by Hope Janowitz
The lack of an appropriate space means that many people want to use containers to grow flowers and even vegetables, or they want to enhance certain areas such as decks, patios and entries, etc. Container gardening can help in these situations, and they can provide color and interest in all seasons. Hope Janowitz will bring her extensive knowledge to this talk on planting in pots. This presentation is sponsored by the Transylvania County Extension Master Gardeners and is part of the monthly program of talks and demonstrations that will interest Master Gardeners, amateur gardeners, and the public at large.

While working in retail garden centers, Hope learned container gardening and over time developed her individual style and process. Now she offers container workshops and services to share her methods with other people who like to plant in pots. Hope has worked with the Volunteers at Brevard Music Center for almost a decade to create the beautiful summer container gardens throughout the campus and is responsible for the containers along Main Street in. She will discuss the basics of container gardening along with strategies for keeping your pots looking great year-round.

Hope Janowitz is a horticulturist living in Pisgah Forest since 1999. She has worked in many facets of the horticulture business for over 35 years. With experience in growing, designing, garden installation, landscape maintenance and for the past 15 years at New Leaf Garden Market, a retail garden center she owned and operated with her husband until late last year. Hope’s interest in horticulture started early, working with family in the vegetable garden and in her father’s commercial landscape company. She studied horticulture at North Carolina State and has spent most of her life practicing horticulture in Western North Carolina. Throughout her career, Hope has applied her love of plants and passion for horticulture to whatever she is doing, whether it be selling in the retail market, consulting, designing, teaching workshop or in garden craft. In 2024 Hope and her husband Jano decided to close New Leaf Garden Market and now she is continuing her horticultural practice through private consulting, container gardening services, workshops and garden craft like wreaths, floral design and wild vine baskets.

The talk is sponsored by the Transylvania County Extension Master Gardeners and will be on Tuesday May 13th, from 10 to 11.00 a.m., doors open at 9.30 a.m. The talk will be held in the Community Services Conference Room, at 106 E. Morgan St, Brevard. All are welcome to attend this free event. Telephone 828-884-3109 for any questions.
