How do You Rely on Water? Art Contest May 9th
Ages: 13-18
Cost: Free to enter
Location: Online
Description: Learn more here. Youth Engaged for Changed in collaboration with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) just launched a creative art contest for youth! Three winners will receive $100 Amazon gift cards. Share your answer to the question: What are the different ways you rely on water on a daily basis or why would you consider a career in water?

Submit ONE of the following:

  • A video essay, featuring acting, singing, poetry, or other spoken word (no more than 1 minute in length)
  • Illustration, such as a graphic design, comic, meme, infographic, animated gif, etc.
  • Photograph
  • Vision board
  • Written essay or poem (no more than 500 words)

Paint & Plant May 23rd
Ages: K-6th grade
Cost: Free
Location: Transylvania County Public Library
Time: 4-5 p.m.
Registration: Visit or contact Transylvania county library
Description: Create your own micro-pollinator garden with 4-H agent Sarah Holden and Agriculture agent Bart Renner to learn all about the role of plants in the pollination process.Participants will paint a container and fill it with plants so that they can take home their very own customized micro-pollinator garden.

Regional Livestock Skillathon Clinic June 4th
Ages: All (content skill level is for beginners)
Cost: $10
Location: Caldwell County
Time: 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

Description: This program will include hands-on activities and teach youth about feeds, equipment, livestock breeds, meat science and more. Species covered include beef cattle, sheep, meat goats and swine. Parent or guardian must be attendance with youth.

4-H Night with the Asheville Tourists June 14th
Ages: All
Cost: $13 per person
Location: McCromick Field, Asheville
Registration: TBA
Registration Deadline: June 6th
Description: Bring the whole family out for a night of baseball with the Asheville Tourists. Ticket price includes seat and a food voucher for a hotdog, chips, and a drink. Parent or guardian must be in attendance with youth.

Horse Clinic June 22-24
Ages: All
Cost: $80-$100 for riding/ $30 for unmounted. $100 scholarship application available
Location: WNC Ag Center in Fletcher

Description: This horsemanship clinic is designed for youth to increase their horsemanship knowledge and riding skills. Each child brings his/her horse. Throughout the three day clinic participants will receive instruction in riding classes by selected disciplines. There is also an unmounted portion. No horse, tack, or equipment necessary for unmounted participation. Parent/guardian must be in attendance the entire time.

Summer Fun: July 13th-August 10th
Ages: 5-12
Cost: Free

Description: Every week will have a different theme that aligns with one of the pillars of 4-H. Each program day will have hands-on educational games, activities, and crafts that fit the theme of the week and will be led by a volunteer with the assistance of junior leaders. Unlock the magic of electricity. Gain health points. Meet a new animal companion on your quest. Every week you will have the opportunity to put the power of knowledge in your hands with 4-H!

Southeast Dairy Youth Retreat July 10th-14th
