The N.C. Cooperative Extension, Pamlico County Center will be conducting the next Extension Master Gardener℠ Training Class from April 2 – May 23, 2024. If you are interested in taking the course, please fill out an application following the link below!

Applications will be open from Monday, February 12, 2024 – Tuesday, March 26, 2024.


The 2024 Extension Master Gardener℠ Volunteers of Pamlico County training program is a 40-hour training course that will cover instructional material focused on home horticulture and get you prepared for Extension volunteer projects. The goal for this training course is to provide practical knowledge and skills that can help residents maintain sustainable and productive gardens and landscapes. Hands-on learning opportunities coupled with classroom instruction will be provided. Occasional field trips will also be used to introduce participants to course subjects and local experts.

Classes will be held in person on Tuesdays &  Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Pamlico County Center (13724 NC Hwy. 55, Bayboro, NC 28515).

Those accepted into the program will need to pay a $135 training fee by the first week of class. This fee will cover the cost of training materials, and includes theNorth Carolina Extension Gardener Handbook, 2nd Edition. (Credit card and Checks are accepted)

  • Soil: Understanding Soil Fertility & Improvements
  • Small Fruit & Tree Fruit Production
  • Home Vegetable Gardening
  • Lawn & Weed Management
  • Insect & Disease Management
  • Ornamental Plant Care & Plant Propagation
  • Practical Problem Solving for Homeowners & Master Gardeners

What are Trainee Qualifications?

Master Gardener trainees should have a basic knowledge of and interest in gardening, good communication skills, enthusiasm for acquiring and sharing horticultural knowledge and skills, ability to build relationships with Pamlico County communities, representation of underserved communities (rural and urban), and interest in supporting the EMG Volunteer Program goals of food security and environmental stewardship.

Interested candidates complete an application, once accepted into the program, will need to register and pay a $135 training fee by the first week of class. This fee will cover the cost of training materials, which includes the Master Gardeners Training Manual.

What are the requirements to become an Extension Master Gardener?

Participants who wish to pursue the title of Extension Master Gardener must first complete this training course and complete an additional 40-hours of volunteer service with Cooperative Extension.
