EMG Educational Programs Committee

EMG EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS COMMITTEE 

Provide monthly educational /training programs for current EMGs and the public

MONTHLY EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM COORDINATOR

Responsibilities:
  • -- Oversee planning of location, schedule, speakers, publicity, refreshments, registration, and all logistics
  • -- Identify potential speakers and/or field trip locations
  • -- Contact speakers initially for availability and scheduling purposes, and again before the program date to confirm the appointment and provide directions
  • Submit--put in a check request with Extension Administrative Assistant if a fee is to be paid to the speaker
  • --Coordinate with the publicity committee when the public is invited
  • --Coordinate with the hospitality committee if refreshments are desired
  • -- Advise the newsletter editor of the program at least one month in advance
  • -- Advise the Facebook administrator of the program at least one month in advance
  • --Report monthly to the Community Educational Program Liaison on the status of the committee

Qualifications:
  • --organizational skills
  • --communication skills
  • --familiarity with local nurseries, growers, garden writers, and other horticultural resources

Estimated Time:

--6 hours at the beginning of the planning year, plus 2-4 hours per month depending on the program

COMMITTEE MEMBERS

Responsibilities:
  • -- Assist in planning programs
  • --Execution of plans on program day
  • --Assist in location set up as needed

--1-2 hours per month depending on the program

SPRING SYMPOSIUM COMMITTEE 

The Spring Symposium provides public education in a classroom setting. EMGs plan the program, coordinate speakers, and serve as presenters as needed.

WORKSHOP COORDINATOR

Responsibilities:
  • --schedule the symposium at the venue
  • --schedule presenters
  • --oversee planning
  • --coordinate with the publicity committee for advertising
  • --coordinate with the hospitality committee if refreshments are desired
  • -- advise the newsletter editor of the program at least one month in advance
  • -- advise the website administrator of the program at least one month in advance
  • --report as needed to the Community Educational Program Liaison on the status of the committee

  • --communication skills

Estimated Time:
  • 20 hours per workshop per presentation for planning
  • Variable hours attending each workshop
