Shade Garden Plants - a talk by the Shady Ladies of Raymond’s Garden Center

In this part of Western North Carolina with its extensive tree cover many gardeners find themselves contending with large areas of shade in their gardens. What plants to choose for shade or semi-shade areas can be problematic but the Shady Ladies of Raymond’s Garden Center in Hendersonville will be on hand to share their expertise in this area. The Shady Ladies are Kay Campbell and Brenda Rosbrook and they come with almost 60 years of combined gardening experience. The talk is sponsored by the Extension Master Gardener℠ Volunteers of Transylvania County and is part of the monthly program of talks and demonstrations that will interest Master Gardeners, amateur gardeners, and the public at large.
This will not be your Momma’s Shade Garden. The Shady Ladies will guide you through the exciting world of shade gardening so that you can learn about new varieties of plants, colorful combos, and deer-resistant plants that will make your shade garden shine. For those of you familiar with this duo you will know that they produce regular YouTube and Facebook videos in which they bring their expertise alive with their quirky humor. So this talk promises to be a “hoot” as well as informative.
Kay Campbell grew up in the mountains of Western North Carolina and Upstate South Carolina. She spent much of her youth gardening with her family and working in flower shops and garden centers. She earned a B.S. in ornamental horticulture from Clemson University. For 30 years, she has cultivated a diverse career and worked for many aspects of the industry, in design and implementation, maintenance, outdoor education, farming, retail and as a horticultural therapist.
Her partner “in crime” Brenda Rosbrook grew up in the Adirondacks of Upstate New York. After working as a golf professional for several years, Brenda took a keen interest in planting and landscape design. By working for Barry Cosgrove Landscaping and owning her own business, she has become the self-taught professional she is today. Brenda joined Raymond’s Garden Center where she has worked in multiple roles. She is now the Growing Center Operations Manager where she leads a team in growing a wide variety of annuals and perennials. The Shady Lady duo is also known as Accent & Attitude (see if you can figure out which is which).
The talk is sponsored by the Extension Master Gardener Volunteers of Transylvania County and will be on Tuesday, July 11th, from 10 to 11 am the Community Services Building Conference Room at 106 E.
