During a time when food supply chains are uncertain, knowing how to preserve your own produce has never been more important. If you’ve been considering learning more about home canning, you will have great opportunities in Henderson County this summer.

N.C. Cooperative Extension, Henderson County Center will be hosting hands-on workshops designed to teach the basics to those new to canning and preserving. You may pick and choose the session you want to attend, or register for all of them!

What Will You Learn? Family and Consumer Science agent, Renay Knapp, will be leading the workshops to introduce you to topics like:

  • Filling jars to the right level
  • Choosing the right produce for canning
  • Cold and hot jar packing methods
  • Pressure cooker safety
  • How long canned foods can safely be stored

Each session will have the option to attend in-person or virtually. The in-person attendees will receive a copy of the “So Easy to Preserve” book published by the University of Georgia.

In-person classes will be held at the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Henderson County Center, 100 Jackson Park Rd, registration fee is $25* per person. All virtual classes are free but do require registration.
