Forest Resources Nearly 60 percent of North Carolina's 33 million acres is considered forestland. North Carolina Cooperative Extension works in partnership with other agencies to provide research-based educational programs that help young people, landowners, foresters, natural resource managers and others understand and make wise use of valuable forest resources. Close to 50% of Transyvania County is made up of public lands, including parts of Pisgah National Forerst, Gorges State Park, and Dupont State Park. Many people come to the county to hike in these parks or to visit the Cradle of Forestry, locate just outside of Brevard. Other come to fish in our many trout streams.
