Agriculture & Food: Commercial Horticulture, Nursery, & Turf Commercial horticulture -- fruit, vegetable and landscape plant production -- represents a fast-growing segment of North Carolina's economy. In many of our urban counties, including Henderson, environmental landscaping has become the facet of agriculture that drives our economy. Agents from Transylvania County's Cooperative Extension Center help growers and green industry professionals implement research-based production practices, investigate high-value alternative crops, develop sound business plans and explore new marketing options to ensure continued farm profitability, environmental stewardship and quality of life. Ornamental Plants, Sod, Vegetables, and Medicinal Herbs are all important crops in Transylvania County. The county is home to 2 of the southeast's largest producers of orchids.
